Up-cycling Old Coasters

Hello Crafty Friends!

Happy New Year to you all! Hope you've been celebrating well into the new decade. Should you find yourself in need of some motivation, I might just have the right thing for you ...

Literally hot of the press, my little piece of wall art was only finished earlier today. I used a few old and faded coasters as my bases. I've been meaning to up-cycle them for at least a couple of years!

I like to think that I am starting the decade as I mean to go on, hopefully the ups and pretty low downs of the last few years are now well behind us and hopefully we're in calmer waters. I would really like to make more Mixed Media projects like my piece of wall art this year. Fingers crossed I'll find the time.

I am entering my wall art at:

October Mixed Media Challenge

Hello, Crafty Friends!

Welcome to this first Sunday in October and the start of a new Mixed Media Challenge over at STAMPlorations. As you know Anything Mixed Media Goes as long as it is not a card and you use at least one stencil.

My DT contribution for October is ... a tealight holder ....

... which is now adorning the mantelpiece in our lounge.

Here are the basic steps on how I made it:

  • paint a clean, empty jar on the outside with Stone PapertArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint
  • sand back a little and add a layer of Claret PaperArtsy Fresco Finish paint
  • using the ARTplorations Leaf Prints Stencil create 6 leaves as described in my video below
  • sand the jar once more a little before applying Gold Metallic Acrylic paint to the jar and the leaves
  • attach the leaves and gems using glue
  • add a piece of raffia around the top and lightly brush with metallic gold acrylic paint
  • add golden glitter glue around the rim and bottom
  • add a tealight using a glue dot to keep in place
How I made the leaves ...

Here is another look without the light candle ..

I hope you feel inspired to create something different, maybe even do some up-cycling or re-purposing .... why not link it up with the Mixed Media Challenge over at STAMPlorations. The theme is always Anything Mixed Media Goes except cards which means projects such as tags, ATCs, canvases, layouts, art journal pages etc,are perfect for entering, and you must have used at least one stencil (any brand) in your project. The challenge will close at the end of the month. You can find the full challenge details plus more Mixed Media inspiration here on the STAMPlorations Blog.

That's it from me for today. I shall be back soon with another project to share.

Have a lovely day!

hugs

Create Magic

Hello Crafty Friends!
It's my turn today sharing a mixed media tutorial over at STAMPlorations. I created some magic on a luggage tag. Here is the finished project:

Interestingly, when I soft focus on the finished projects I can see one of those old fashioned fairground attractions, I think they are called Helter Skelter, instead of a lighthouse. I don't know whether it is the bleached dots mimicking lights, the sparkle, the word magic or just my imagination playing tricks with me. Try it and see what you see.

If you want to know how the tag was made, pop over to the STAMPlorations Blog to see my full Mixed Media Photo Tutorial.

September Stencil Sunday

Hello, Crafty Friends!

Welcome to another Stencil Sunday in September which gives me the opportunity to remind you of the Mixed Media Challenge over at STAMPlorations. As you know Anything Mixed Media Goes as long as it is not a card and you use at least one stencil.

My DT contribution for Stencil Sunday is ... a Vintage tag .... and I always thought, I couldn't do vintage for love nor money ... this one just happened as I went along wanting to do something completely different on the outset.

TIP!: In Mixed Media it's always good to go with the flow.

Here are the basic steps on how I made it:
  • die cut the large tag from CUTplorations Luggage Tags Nesting Dies
  • take a pale turquoise and purple brusho print off your crafting mat (I used some Brusho which I had left over from my upcoming Spotlight Project 'Stamping With Brushos) Not sure, if it was down to the brusho print, but the ink colours didn't seem to blend like they normally do. Something I need to keep my eye on.
  • blend some pink through the ARTplorations Honeycomb Delight Stencil (I used Melon Mambo SU ink)
  • do some 2nd generation background stamping using stamps from the Mixed Media Elements set in turquoise (Tempting Turquoise SU ink)
  • blend with yellow (Daffodil Delight SU ink)
  • stamp the script from the Mixed Media Elements set in black partially wiping the ink off before stamping
  • stamp swirls in olive green (Old Olive SU ink) using one of the stamps from the Distressed Floral Swirls
  • stamp and add you sentiment from the Art Is set
  • add two birds using Sparkle Medium (Black Stars) and the Some Birds ARTplorations Stencil
  • add pearls and a touch of golden glitter
  • finish off with a little lace

Color Blooms ATCs Part 2

Hello, Crafty Friends!

Welcome to this first Sunday in August and the start of a new Mixed Media Challenge over at STAMPlorations. As you know anything Mixed Media Goes as long as it is not a card and you use at least one stencil.

As promised I shall be showing you the last three ATCs I made using one of the pages from Color Blooms ...

I attached my piece of Color Bloom page to a piece of card sponged with Crushed Curry and lightly sponged a frame in Pimpkin Pie using the ARTplorations Stencil Gridlocked. Next I used the Art Splatters Stencil and paste for the running paint and sprinkled it immediately with golden glitter. Once dry, I doodled a little border, stamped my sentiment from the Vignette Artful Flutters set, layerd onto my ATC base and finished off with some glitter around the edges.

For my next ATC, I sponged the edges of my piece of Color Blooms with Rich Razzleberry, used Art Splatters for the running paint, doodled a border, stamped my sentiment from the Trendy Butterflies set and added lots of sequins.

On my 3rd and last ATC today, I used only a narrow strip of my Color Blooms Page and layered it up with newsprint paper sponged with Tempting Turquoise. Again I used the running paint bit from the Art Splatters stencil with a little bit of glitter. I then stamped a partial border using the heart square from the Patchwork Frenzy Graphic Squares set, stamped and heat embossed my small butterflies from the Trendy Butterflies set, stamped and fuzzy cut another one, doodled a golden outline and finished off with a sentiment from Artful Flutters, some gems and a little daisy.

I hope you feel inspired to create something different .... why not link it up with the Mixed Media Challenge over at STAMPlorations.

If you want to know what I used to colour my page from Color Blooms, check out my Spotlight Project here on the STAMPlorations Blog. I shall be back soon with another project to share.

Have a lovely day!
